Spotlight: Vanessa Schukis '82 Sings at Fenway Park

Singer and Moravian alum Vanessa Schukis '82 has performed theater, opera, and concert engagements throughout the United States and in Austria to critical acclaim. She says one of the most thrilling experiences of her career was a few weeks ago, when she sang the national anthem at the September 4 Red Sox game for about 30,000 fans.

"It's exhilarating, especially when you begin to hear the cheers as you hold the high note on the word 'free,' followed by the  applause at the end for a job well done," she said. "This is one of the most fantastic feelings I have ever encountered in my performing career."

Schukis has performed the national anthem on the U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides), at the New England Dragway, and at Lebanon Valley Speedway in Massachusetts. "There is no greater honor than singing the national anthem, whatever the venue," she said.

Besides being a performer, Schukis is an award-winning teacher with more than 30 years of experience in performing arts education, focusing on students with learning disabilities and special needs. She teaches music at the Murphy School and Lee Academy Pilot School in Dorchester, Mass., through the outreach program of the Community Music Center of Boston. She is a member of the guest faculty at New England Conservatory in Boston and a visiting faculty member at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Mass. In addition to traditional products like health, auto, and homeowners insurance, the Moravian College Alumni Insurance Program has a wide variety of other products and discount plans available.

Advisory Services - A licensed insurance professional is available, at no charge, to answer questions, provide guidance, and even help evaluate options.

Discount Dental Plans – Save a bundle on routine dental care and specialty services.

Small Business - Health, Dental, and Vision for employees and family members. Eligibility criteria vary, but most businesses with at least two full-time employees will qualify.

Special Event Insurance - Liability coverage is available for events lasting from a few hours to as much as 10 days.  Cover a wedding, family reunion, or fundraiser.
