Cas Sowa, director of international studies, attended Congressional Education Day, January 22 in Washington, D.C., sponsored by NAFSA: Association of International Educators (for colleges and universities) and the Alliance for International Educational and Cultural Exchange (for high school programs). Staff members for U.S. Senators Rick Santorum and Arlen Spector met with representatives from the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State, Drexel University, Juniata College, the University of Pittsburgh, and Moravian. Sowa also met with Rep. Patrick Toomey of Pennsylvanias 15th Congressional District.
Sean Tallarico, director of campus safety, spoke at a meeting of security personnel personnel from 38 Virginia and Washington, D.C., colleges and universities, January 26-28 at Massanutten Resort, near Harrison- burg, Va. It was sponsored by the Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
Scott Strausberger, director of career development services, was interviewed January 15 on the Channel 69 news. He talked about the unhappy state of the job marketone report projects a 20 percent decrease in hiring college graduates this yearbut also suggested steps students can take in their job searches.
Kristy Bredin 02, Doylestown, who performed her senior piano recital January 18, was featured January 24 on Lehigh Valley Tempo (Channel 39), thanks to Nancy Clark, assistant dean of music, who was in the right place at the riught time. Clark attended a Lehigh Valley Arts Council meeting January 17at Lehigh Valley PBS andafterward popped in to say hello to Amy Burkett, executive producer of Tempo. Burkett needed to fill a gap in an upcoming programand the rest is show biz.
