Blessed Are the Peacemakers

President Rokke has been named to a three-year term on the advisory council of the U.S. Institute of Peace, a nonpartisan, independent institution established by Congress to promote peaceful resolution of international conflicts.

The council meets twice a year. Dr. Rokke attended its February 5 meeting in Washington, D.C., where the topics included nuclear arms proliferation and its effect on the Korean Peninsula; the impending confrontation with Iraq; and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Other members of the council include Frank Carlucci, former Secretary of Defense; Lloyd Cutler, senior White House counsel in the Carter administration; John Gage of Sun Microsystems; Thomas Pickering, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.; and Pete Wilson, former governor of California
