President
Rokke has been named to a three-year term on the advisory
council of the U.S. Institute of Peace, a nonpartisan, independent
institution established by Congress to promote peaceful resolution
of international conflicts.
The council meets twice a year. Dr. Rokke
attended its February 5 meeting in Washington, D.C., where
the topics included nuclear arms proliferation and its effect
on the Korean Peninsula; the impending confrontation with
Iraq; and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Other members of the council include Frank
Carlucci, former Secretary of Defense; Lloyd Cutler, senior
White House counsel in the Carter administration; John Gage
of Sun Microsystems; Thomas Pickering, former U.S. Ambassador
to the U.N.; and Pete Wilson, former governor of California
