Like
most writers, Paul Acampora, director of development, is reluctant to announce
publication of his books and stories until he holds the hard copy in his hands.
But when the publisher sends the cover art, you can pretty much assume it’s a done
deal—or as Paul says, “I guess it’s really going to happen.”
Here’s the cover of Paul’s first novel, Defining Dulcie (Penguin/
Putnam’s Dial Books for Young Readers), written for young adults and featuring
a teenage girl, a pickup truck, and mustard gas.
He also has a short story in the collection, Every Man for Himself:
Stories About Being a Guy. Paul calls himself “the runt of the litter” in
this gathering of Newbury, Caldecott, Michael L. Printz, Coretta Scott King,
and other award-winners. The story selected for the collection is one that he
worked on extensively with Joyce Hinnefeld in her creative writing class.
In addition to his day job in development, Paul also has taught Writing
100 and set up visits to campus by several well-known Pennsylvania writers. |
