Field
of Dreams
The College announced
March 8 that it will invest more
than $2.6 million in a significant
renovation and repair project of
Steel Field Athletic Complex.
The
project, which is part of an
Athletic Master Plan approved by
the board of trustees in 2003,
includes an artificial playing
surface for football, lacrosse,
and intramurals; and an eight-lane
NCAA-competition track.
The newly
surfaced playing area will be
called Rocco Calvo Field, in recognition
of Moravian’s legendary
athletics director and football,
basketball, and baseball coach (1955-92).
The expanded track will continue
to be known as Breidegam Track, in
honor of the late Timothy Breidegam ’78.
The project also
involves structural repair to the
88- year-old grandstand at the
complex, including replacement
of its underlying structural steel,
waterproofing its exterior,
painting its interior, and repairing
its ceiling.
Work on these projects
has begun. The plan is to complete
construction by opening day of
next fall’s football
season. |
