The Elvish Department

George Diamond, professor of English, sends the following social note on the department’s annual fête for graduating and rising seniors. Held May 2 at Martha Reid’s farm in Northampton, it featured potables, sandwiches, and desserts. There also was Maypole dancing taught by actual woodland elves. When offered a small sum of cash to provide a photograph of the elves, he said: “Only English majors can see them.” Yeah, right.

At the party, the Sigma Chi Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, international English honor society, inducted graduating seniors (Class of 2003) Drew S. Hinkel, Bangor; Robin E. Kraft, Scotch Plains, N.J.; Sara M. Rafferty, Hellertown; Jennifer A. Tannous, Bethlehem; Robin E. Thomas, Bethlehem; and George R.E. Wacker, Honesdale; and rising seniors (Class of 2004) Shannon Clay, Hellertown; Robert F. Fillman, Allentown; Jessica L. Giampolo, Bethlehem; Emily L. Goodman, Egg Harbor, N.J.; Brooke E.
