The
Elvish Department
George Diamond, professor of English, sends
the following social note on the department’s annual
fête for
graduating and rising seniors. Held May 2 at Martha
Reid’s
farm in Northampton, it featured potables, sandwiches, and
desserts. There also was Maypole dancing taught by actual
woodland elves. When offered a small sum of cash to provide
a photograph of the elves, he said: “Only English majors
can see them.” Yeah, right.
