Going for baroque: Brian Henkelmann tests
the Music Department’s new Steinway Model L grand piano
with a bit of Bach.
This summer, the Music Department used its
$25,000 gift from the Presser Foundation, matched by $24,860
from the piano fund of the Music Alliance support group, to
buy two Steinways: a Model L grand (5 feet 10½ inches
long) and a professional-model studio upright.
When the new instruments arrived in August,
they got a once-over from by Brian Henkelmann ’78, ’83,
an artist-lecturer in piano, organ, and sacred music.
The Music Alliance has about $5,000 left in
its piano fund: “a good start on the next keyboard,”
says Jim Barnes, chair of the department.
