To Moravian College’s cooperative
programs with other universities in the fields of engineering,
dentistry, environmental science, allied health professions,
and computer science, add advanced counseling.
Moravian
Theological Seminary is inaugurating a joint program
with Marywood University in Scranton whereby students who
wish
to combine social-work theories with their
ministries may complete a Master of Divinity and Master of Social Work in four
years. Those who wish to combine social work practice with a pastoral counseling
ministry may complete the Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling and Master
of Social Work degrees in three years.
Social work courses
are given by Marywood’s School of Social Work.
All courses for the M.S.W. may be earned at Marywood’s
branch program at DeSales University, Allentown. Field
placements are selected to satisfy both
institutions.
Marywood’s M.S.W. is accredited by
the Council on Social Work Education. Students who complete
the joint program can be licensed in
social work (LSW)
or in clinical social work (LCSW) by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The license in clinical social work requires an additional
2,600 hours of supervised
clinical
work beyond the M.S.W. degree.
Faculty advisors for the joint degree are
Cynthia J. Weaver, assistant professor of social work
at Marywood, and Glenn Asquith Jr., professor
of pastoral
theology at Moravian.
A “signing ceremony” to acknowledge
the beginning of the joint program was held at Moravian on September
26. Information on the program: Ext. 1516. |
