What
to Expect
The fourth annual LVAIC professional development workshop for senior
student affairs personnel will be a day with Thomas E. Miller and Barbara E. Bender
on the subject “Promoting
Reasonable Expectations: Aligning Student and Institutional Views of the College
Experience.”
It will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 18,
at Lafayette College’s
Pfenning Alumni Center.
Miller and Bender are coauthors of a book with the same
title as the workshop (Jossey-Bass, 2005). It identifies strategies for “addressing
the disjunctions between expectation and reality” in
student views of what college should be like and what it is.
Miller is dean of students at the University
of South Florida. Bender is associate dean of the graduate school at Rutgers
University.
Those interested should complete a registration form from the Office
of Student Affairs and return it by November 11.
