Help Write Where You Need It
Moravian students who need some help with a writing project have always been able to get assistance by visiting the Moravian College Writing Center in Zinzendorf Hall. Now a new initiative puts some writing center tutors in Reeves Library, where they can assist students with the research aspects of a writing assignment. “It’s kind of a natural outgrowth of what we’ve already been doing,” says Joyce Hinnefeld, associate professor of English and director of the Writing Center. “We’ve always helped students improve their research skills; being physically in the library makes it easier.”
“Working in the library really shows the connection between the writing process and research process,” says Angela Geosits 09, one of the student-tutors who will be posted there. She notes that for some students, it can be easier to ask for help from a peer than from a professional. With the new initiative, the tutors will be better positioned to connect students in need with library resources and staff. “In the past, we’d send people to the library but we’d wonder if they actually went there. Now we can take someone right to the reference shelves or to a librarian.” Starting March 12, tutors will be located in the Sara Weller Memorial Area of Reeves Library (main floor, south end), Tuesday-Thursday 2:00-5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Appointments can be arranged through the Writing Center; walk-in requests for help are also welcome.
