Were you part of the human awareness ribbon?
 |
| Anne Joseph '12, president of IDEA, is interviewed by channel 69 news. |
Even if you missed your chance to make history as part of the first human awareness ribbon on Moravian’s campus, it’s not too late to help raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic. On December 1, in honor of World AIDS Day, students, faculty and staff, many wearing red (the color of AIDS awareness) formed the iconic ribbon on the quad.
Organized by IDEA (Instilling Diversity, Equality and Awareness) and co-sponsored by the campus Office of Institutional Diversity, the Moravian World AIDS Day observance was in support of the UNAIDS campaign Getting to Zero: Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths. Zero new HIV infections.
“We believe that the human awareness ribbon was a statement of support for the Zero Campaign, awareness, prevention and safety,” says Anne Joseph ’12 president of IDEA. “It was a public declaration that students and faculty willingly took part in. It was a great day of awareness, putting information out there, and that's what IDEA stands for. We believe we helped spread awareness and got people to show their support for getting to zero.”
Visitors to the HUB also were able to pick up information about the HIV-AIDS epidemic, prevention tips, condoms and awareness ribbon pins. Free HIV/AIDS testing, a speaker and a movie about living with AIDS rounded out the daylong events. Visit www.unaids.org
