Inaugural Winterfest Hits Campus Saturday, Jan. 25

Students, Faculty, Staff Invited to Free, Family-Friendly Event

On Saturday, Jan. 25, in celebration of its campus community and the winter season, Moravian College will host its inaugural Winterfest, a free, family-friendly event for Moravian College and Seminary students, faculty and staff. Scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the College’s Main Street Campus, Winterfest will feature a variety of family activities and include the transformation of the Priscilla Payne Hurd Academic Complex’s patio include a skating rink.

“It is a day planned for our College family to come together and have fun,” explained Ann Claussen, director of the HUB and event management. “We are very excited to have an ice skating rink on campus – yes, an ice skating rink – at the PPHAC patio.” Skates will be provided by a vendor.

Kristin Baxter, assistant professor of art, and members of the College’s Art Department are planning four unique art project stations which will include puppet making, graphic design, hieroglyphics and one other session to be determined. These will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the rooms of the HUB.

Additionally, the movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" will be shown at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the HUB’s Prosser Auditorium.

Food stations will be set up in the Pavilion from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The College will be serving festive food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chicken nuggets, chili, cheesy French fries and a yogurt bar.

All members of the Campus community are invited to come to campus and have fun with colleagues and their families.

In an Oct. 29 email announcing the inaugural event’s planning, President Bryon Grigsby ’90 cited the students’ desire to have more interaction with faculty and staff as a large motivator for Winterfest.

“I think time spent getting to know each other outside of the classroom simply strengthens what is already a strong community bond,” Grigsby wrote. “Further, it allows students, faculty and staff to work hand in hand in creating what we hope will be a fun-filled annual event.”

“We are very excited to bring an event such as Winterfest to our campus,” said Jon Conrad, chief human resource officer. “Moravian College is about community and this event is a great new way to bring the entire community together. I am looking forward to a great turn out!”

Attendees are asked to RSVP by Friday, Jan. 17, completing the following response form. (This will allow staff to adequately prepare for this new event.)
