Head
men's basketball coach Jim Walker earned his 300th victory
at Moravian with an 86-74 victory over Albright College in Commonwealth
Conference action on January 30. In 22 seasons at Moravian, Walker
has a record of 301-250, and his overall record is 316-260 over
23 years. Only the legendary Moravian baseball coach Harvey Gillespie
has more victories in a single sport (352 wins from 1935 to 1974)
than Walker. The men's basketball team concluded the 2001-02
season with an overall record of 14-11.
When
the Moravian golf team finished third of four teams and defeated
rival Muhlenberg College at the annual Lehigh Valley Championships,
it gave Moravian head coach John Makuvek his 300th career victory
in 34 seasons. It also clinched the Matte Award for Moravian, which
won 9-7 over Muhlenberg for the 2001-02 academic year. Makuvek's
career record for the golf team is 300-189; he also led the men's
soccer program to a 219-133-29 record in 24 seasons. Moravian golf
was 3-2 in dual matches this season and finished third at the 2002
Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
