Moravian
students are nothing if not versatile. Amanda Wynn ’03,
a summa cum laude graduate in psychology and Spanish, will spend
next year as a cheerleader with the Philadelphia Eagles. A record-setting
pole vaulter and member of five honoraries, she was one of 17 chosen
(out of more than 500 applicants) for the 2003 squad. Though her
brother is a security guard at the Eagles’ summer training
camp at Lehigh University, Amanda knew little about football until
she got a crash course from her boyfriend, Ray Burgan ’04,
fullback on the Moravian team.
As
a vocal music major, Jessica Smith ’04
is all over the map. A member of the Moravian College Choir, she
has sung alto
solos in Masses by Beethoven and Mozart. She’s a dazzling
scat singer with the College’s Jazz Combo I. She had a leading
role in the fall Moravian College Theatre Company production of
All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. And in April,
she won a statewide talent show to become “Campus Idol” of
Pennsylvania. Her prize: eight hours of professional recording
studio time and 100 CD copies of her demo recording. The question
is, what will she sing? Classics? Jazz? Pop? Broadway? Or her own
alternative compositions?
