Afternoon tea, like this one in 1949, was a weekly event at the Women’s College. The Young Women’s Christian Association, which sponsored the weekly teas, also sponsored a formal tea at the start of the year and another at its close. Though mostly attended by students, faculty, and alumnae, one tea in December 1940 featured a distinguished guest: Austrian archduke Otto von Habsburg, heir to the Austrian throne if Austria had still been a monarchy.

This spring witnessed the revival of the tradition in Main Hall. Otto didn’t show up, though.
