NEWS OF 1999
From the Alumni House:
Mark Strohl recently returned from a five-month deployment aboard the
U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which led the humanitarian
effort to help areas of Indonesia and Thailand destroyed by the December 27, 2004, tsunami.
Mark is a financial storekeeper aboard ship-in civilian terms, a government procurement
specialist. He says he was not able to get ashore for the distribution of supplies to tsunami
survivors, but he was able to expedite delivery of all needed medical supplies.
This was by far the most rewarding thing he's experienced since joining the Navy, Mark
says. Everyone on ship volunteered immediately when the chance was given. But only a limited
number of crew members were allowed to fly on the helicopter missions.
Mark has had other opportunities to perform community-service work in the Navy. While
he was at home port in Seattle, he helped with a beach cleanup. He said the Puget Sound
area is beautiful and the rain isn't so bad!
Joey Reisch married Kevin Gallagher on April 30 in Stroudsburg. Kerry
Tierney was maid of honor, with Nicole Campasano and Liz
Chamberlain as bridesmaids and Jimmy Heidecker as an usher.
Also there were Mike Zambelli and Mark Michalczyk.
Kevin's father is James Gallagher '58. After a honeymoon in the Bahamas,
Joey and Kevin returned home to Bethlehem.
