Bethlehem to Baghdad Symposium
On December 2, Moravian’s Lehigh Valley Home Club along with alumni associations
from Lehigh University, Muhlenberg College, Lafayette College, and Cedar Crest College,
presented “From Bethlehem to Baghdad: A Lehigh Valley Perspective on the Crisis in
the Middle East.” The panel discussion included professors and alumni representing
each of the five colleges. Judith Share Yaphe ’66 represented Moravian as a panelist.
Judith, a distinguished research professor at the Institute for National Strategic Studies
at the National Defense University in Washington D.C., is considered one of the most respected
authorities on Iraq in the United States. The event drew 270 Lehigh Valley residents to
this timely panel discussion.

Club’s Pre-Holiday Sale
The Moravian Book Shop and Donegal Square were packed with alumni getting a head start
on their holiday shopping at the Home Club’s Second Annual Pre-Holiday Sale. The
sale, held exclusively for Moravian alumni and friends, drew over 450 attendees to both
stores. Alumni were not only offered 10% off their purchases, they were also treated
to wine tasting by Franklin Hill Vineyards and a special performance of holiday music by
the Moravian College Choir. Mark your calendar for the 2005 Pre-Holiday Sale: Wednesday,
November 16.
Home Club
Gingerbread House Decorating Party
Over 40 alumni, joined by their children, parents, and friends, along with over 20 Moravian
College Resident Advisors, got in the holiday spirit by attending the Home Club’s
Second Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Party on Sunday, December 5. The HUB Pavilion,
where the event was hosted, was full of merry sights, scents, and sounds. Holiday music
and the wafting aroma of gingerbread filled the air. Each group received a gingerbread
house, a 2-pound bag of candy, and green and white royal icing. Special thanks to chef
Martha Neff ’70 for her efforts. Martha assembled the houses, helped purchase candy,
decorated three sample houses, made each pastry bag of royal icing, and offered her baker’s
expertise to the decorators. Jocelyn Bellew ’99, Jarred Weaver ’98, and Christina
Mondschein ’02 also deserve thanks for their efforts in purchasing candy for the
event. Thanks also to our Student Alumni Association for its help in separating and bagging
all that candy!
