Moravian College will take receipt of a historic pipe
organ from the Metropolitan Muse.0um of Art, New York City, on Wednesday,
August 26th. The antique organ will be assembled in Peter Hall at Moravian's
Church Street Campus on Wednesday, August 26. The organ, on loan from
the Met, will be tuned and ready for display on Thursday, August 27th.
Samuel Green, an important English organ builder of his
time, built the antique pipe organ over 200 years ago in London. He
built organs for royalty, churches and manor houses. The pipe organ
on display at Moravian was originally built for an English manor house
in 1790.
The organ has recently undergone a complete restoration
by R. J. Brunner & Co., Lancaster, PA. The husband and wife team
of Ray and Ruth Brunner, who performed the restoration, will assemble
and tune the organ.
The pipe organ is a manual organ with four ranks of pipes;
it is approximately nine feet high and is decorated with mahogany casework.
Laurence Libin, Curator of Musical Instruments, Metropolitan
Museum of Art, will be in attendance in Peter Hall while the pipe organ
is assembled and tuned. Peter Hall is located at the Moravian College
- Church Street Campus, Church and Main streets, Bethlehem, PA.
