The Lay Academy of the Moravian Theological Seminary is
offering a course, Active spirituality: a guide for seekers and ministers.
The course is useful to both lay persons and clergy as it invites new
ways to notice God’s presence in the midst of living.
The six-week course will be held Tuesday evenings from
October 6 to November 10. The classes meet, 7:30–9:30 p.m., at
the Bahnson Center, 60 W. Locust Street, Bethlehem. Registration cost
is $40 before September 22 and $50 after that date.
The course will use Kent Groff’s text, Active Spirituality,
which provides ordinary Christians a way to understand what it means
to believe, and what to do after you say you believe. Groff offers a
unique integration of spirituality and service, heart and mind, from
various faith traditions. The course will explore five spiritual disciplines
— community, solitude, learning, service, and vocation —
in creative and profound ways, using prayer exercises for groups or
individuals.
The leader of the course is Emily Wallace, a pastoral
counselor, spiritual director, and a certified facilitator of the Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator (MBTI). She received a M.A.P.C. degree from Moravian
Theological Seminary and has served on the board and staff of Oasis
Ministries in Harrisburg, PA.
The Lay Academy of the Lehigh Valley provides ecumenical
adult education courses and workshops. The organization, which is based
at Moravian Theological Seminary, includes representatives from several
local denominations. Instructional resources are drawn from area churches,
colleges, and community groups.
