The Lay Academy of the Moravian Theological Seminary is
offering a course, Theology, Literature and Coffee (TLC), that explores
theological themes in selected literature. The course consists of three
lunchtime classes that will be held on September 25, October 9, and
October 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Luther Crest Church in
Allentown.
Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy
a time of fellowship as they discuss literature and its meaning. On
September 25, Dr. Robert Everett, Institute for Jewish/Christian Understanding,
Muhlenberg College, will lead a discussion of Stephen Wylen’s
book, Jews in the Time of Jesus, published by Paulist Press. On October
9, Susan Steinhaus, St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, will lead a
discussion of Christopher DeVinck’s book, The Power of the Powerless,
published by Zondervan. On October 23, Judith Helm, Pastor, Nativity
Lutheran Church, will lead a discussion of James A. Michener’s
book, Recessional, published by Fawcett Crest, Ballentine Books. Rev.
Diane Kareha, Chaplain, Luther Crest, is coordinator.
The Lay Academy of the Lehigh Valley provides ecumenical
adult education courses and workshops. The organization, which is based
at Moravian Theological Seminary, includes representatives from several
local denominations. Instructional resources are drawn from area churches,
colleges, and community groups. Registration cost is $30. For registration
