World-renowned Cellist, Yo-Yo Ma will conduct a master
class on Saturday, November 21, at 12 noon in Foy Concert Hall at Moravian
College’s Church Street Campus in Bethlehem. Yo-Yo Ma’s
appearance at Moravian College for the master class underscores his
strong commitment to educational programs that bring young audiences
into contact with music and allows them to participate in the creation
of music.
The master class format allows fans of the Yo-Yo Ma to
see him up-close and personal in a non-performance setting. The audience
will get to see Yo-Yo Ma as a teacher, providing instruction to student
performers. Five Moravian College and area high school students will
have the opportunity to perform, one-at-a-time, before Yo-Yo Ma and
receive expert instruction.
The Moravian College Music Institute has brought other
music legends to Bethlehem to conduct master classes. During the July
Jazz Getaway, jazz great Clark Terry taught a master class jazz campers.
Metropolitan Opera Bass Paul Plishka conducted a master class in October.
Marilyn Horne, a Metropolitan Opera Mezzo-Soprano, conducted a master
class in April of 1997.
General admission to the master class is $15 and $10 for
Senior Citizens, LVAIC members and, students with ID. Proceeds benefit
the Moravian College Music Alliance Scholarship Fund. For more information,
