The Moravian College Faculty Jazz ensemble will perform
in concert on Sunday, January 24, at 4 p.m. in Foy Concert Hall at Moravian’s
Church Street Campus, Church and Main streets, Bethlehem. The group
is comprised of an all-star line up of local jazz players who teach
at Moravian College.
The jazz group includes Tony Gairo, saxophone; Al Gaumer,
trumper and flugelhorn; Tom Kozic, guitar; Lou Lanza, vocals; Peter
Paulsen, bass; Paul Rostock, bass; Neil Wetzel, saxophone and flute;
Skip Wilkins, piano; and guest Gary Rissmiller, drums.
The concert program will include Jeanine by Duke Pearson;
Endless Mountains by Peter Paulsen; I'm a Fool to Want You by Jack Wolf,
Joel Herron, Frank Sinatra, arranged by Tom Kozic; and Pools by Don
Grolnik:
After the intermission, the group will play Four by Miles
Davis; Osaka Express by Jim Hall; Waltz in A-flat, op.69/1 by Fryderyk
Chopin, arranged by Skip Wilkins; Lucas A. by Al Gaumer; and S.O.S.
by Wes Montgomery.
The concert showcases the talented faculty that teach
jazz at Moravian College. The college is well known for its fine music
department and is also gaining a reputation for its endeavors into jazz
education. With eight jazz artist instructors, the jazz student at Moravian
gets in-depth and personal attention. All of the jazz faculty are performing
musicians with recording experience. The program offers classes in jazz
improvisation, jazz ear-training, jazz piano skills, and jazz history.
The student can also participate in the Moravian College Big Band, the
school's Fusion Ensemble, or one of the two traditional jazz combos.
Students who have graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance)
degree have gone on to professional playing careers and attended the
country's top graduate schools.
Tickets will be available at the door and are $8 for general
admission, $5 for senior citizens and students of Lehigh Valley Association
of Independent Colleges, and $3 for children 12 and under.
