Travel the high seas from Argentina to Antarctica with
speaker, Charles Hasenecz on Monday, February 8, at Moravian College.
A slide presentation and lecture is set for 7:00 p.m. in Prosser Auditorium
in the Haupert Union Building on Moravian’s Main Street campus.
Charles Hasenecz’s roots spring from the Carpathian
Mountain area, currently known as the Ukraine. His parents immigrated
to America circa 1904, and he is the tenth child of thirteen children.
Diligently working his way through school, Charles earned a B.A. degree
from Moravian College in 1953, certification to teach English as a second
language at the University of Michigan, and an M.A. from Lehigh University.
Charles taught English in the Bethlehem Area School District
for almost thirty years, intermittently taking leaves of absence to
teach English as a second language in Greece, Israel and Cyprus. In
addition to his many interests and pursuits, Charles lends a hand during
the week as a volunteer for St. Luke’s Hospital. He has also served
for over thirty-five years as choir director for the Russian Orthodox
Church in Bethlehem.
Charles having traveled to many countries, observed the
validity of John Steinbeck’s remark "A journey is a person
in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policies and
coercion are fruitless. We find after years of struggle that we do not
take a trip; a trip takes us."
The roundtable lecture is free and open to the public,
