News Release
February 1999
The Moravian College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the
national leadership and scholarship honor society, is approaching its
goal of raising $2,500 for Meals on Wheels of Bethlehem by selling a
cookbook. "A Taste of Moravian" is a compilation of 350 recipes
from the faculty, students, staff, alumni and parents of Moravian College.
The production and sale of the book is a project sponsored by the Moravian
College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa. All proceeds from the book are
being donated to Meals on Wheels.
Students chose to sponsor a "food" themed philanthropic
project to support a "food" themed cause – Meals on
Wheels of Bethlehem. The inspiration for the project came last year
when an article in The Morning Call indicated that Meals on Wheels had
not met their fundraising challenge. Shortly thereafter, students saw
an infomercial on TV about Fundcraft, a cookbook publishing company,
and somehow, the food concepts clicked together! The students were very
excited about the idea and have put a great deal of time into selling
them. Senior ODK member Carly Silvesti did the artwork for the section
dividers and president Don Gebhard (senior also) wrote the introductory
sections of the book.
The students have sold 150 of the 250 cookbooks needed
to reach their fundraising goal of $2500 for Meals on Wheels. Books
are $10 and are available at the Moravian College Bookstore. They can
also be purchased by sending a check for $12 (to cover postage) to:
April Vari, Associate Dean of Students, Moravian College Student Services
Office, 1134 Monocacy Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018.
