Fr. Daniel G. Gambet, o.s.f.s., president of Allentown
College of St. Francis de Sales, will be the Moravian College baccalaureate
speaker on Friday, May 14, at 5:30 p.m. in Central Moravian Church.
His address will be entitled "They Shall Know There Has Been a
Prophet among Them."
Fr. Gambet was ordained a Catholic priest in 1957 and
came to Allentown in 1965 as the first academic dean of Allentown College.
A classicist by training, Fr. Gambet received his bachelor’s
degree from Niagara University, his master’s degree from Catholic
University of America, and his doctoral degree in classical studies
from the University of Pennsylvania.
He serves as a director of the Pennsylvania Association
of Colleges and Universities, the Commission for Independent Colleges
and Universities, the Lehigh Valley Hospital, and the Lehigh Valley
Community Foundation. He is a trustee of the Harry C. Trexler Trust,
and active in the United Way and many other local and regional organizations.
He was presented the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters
degree from Lehigh University in 1986 and Moravian College in 1988,
and an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Lafayette College in
1994.
He has received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the
Minsi Trails Council of the Boy Scouts in 1985, the Silver Beaver Award
from the Minsi Trails Council of the Boy Scouts in 1996, the Call-Chronicle
Bowl for Outstanding Leadership in the 1985 United Way campaign, the
Distinguished Community Service Award from the Lehigh County Senior
Citizens’ Center in 1997, the Community Fabric Volunteer Award
from Northampton Community College in 1997, and the Distinguished Service
Award from the Allentown-Lehigh County Chamber of Commerce in 1987.
He has also received the Jack P. Houlihan Community Service
Award in 1990, the Sales and Marketing Executives Distinguished Citizen
Award in 1991, and the Greater Northeastern Chapter of the National
Society of Fund-Raising Executives Outstanding Fund-Raising Executive
Award in 1991.
