News Release
October 1999
Moravian College recently went live with a new totally
redesigned Web site at www.moravian.edu. The site features a splash
page with a beautiful watercolor of Moravian's Main Street Campus with
the tag line, "Moravian College, a small national treasure."
From the splash page, visitors can go to either the College's main page
or the Moravian Theological Seminary's main page. The College's main
page features all the important links to academics, admission, athletics,
alumni, events, news, and student life, along with an interactive news
banner that links to important news and information.
Prospective students may request an application online
from the Office of Admission and submit the written application by mail,
or fill out the Moravian College online application form. The $30 application
fee is waived for those who apply via Moravian's online form.
Visitors interested in continuing studies or the Moravian
MBA program can explore extensive background information on all of the
courses offered at Moravian. MBA students can request information or
even register for classes online.
An innovative use of the Web site to promote events includes
the College's use of cyberspace to promote the up coming lecture by
Ambassador Andrew Young on October 6. Visitors are invited to take the
online "Andrew Young Quiz," a set of eight questions that
when answered correctly yields the visitor two free tickets to the lecture.
All of the answers to the quiz are contained in the news release that
is linked to the quiz page. Winners are notified by e-mail and then
sent tickets via mail.
By accessing the interactive public events calendar, visitors
to www.moravian.edu will discover a world of events and activities at
Moravian that are open to the public. The calendar utilizes software
developed by Region Online, which allows visitors to see what's happening
day-by-day or search for events by dates and/or categories. Visitors
can also use an interactive form to request e-mail notification of events
and activities.
The new Web site features an extensive section on Greyhound
athletics that includes web pages for each of Moravian's sixteen Middle
Atlantic Conference teams. Each team has extensive information posted,
everything from season previews to up-to-the-minute statistics are available
on-line. Prospective student athletes can complete questionnaires that
get sent to each of the respective coaches. Soon video clips of Greyhound
action will be added to the site.
The Web site contains a section on news and information
that houses an archive of news releases, Moravian's newsletter The Bulletin,
and the Moravian College Magazine. It also contains all of the sports
news releases and Greyhound Tracks, a weekly statistical roundup of
all Greyhound athletic teams.
Moravian College's Web site was developed by Michael Wilson,
director of public relations, and Christie Jacobsen, Class of 2000,
a graphic design major at Moravian. The College has recently employed
and trained a team of students to assist faculty and staff in developing
and maintaining departmental Web sites.
"We set-out to create a Web site that was interesting,
interactive and easily updated," said Michael Wilson, director
of public relations and webmaster. "It is important to continually
provide new information and images that keep visitors coming back to
the site." The site is a great medium for students, alumni, friends
of the College, and the community to keep abreast of the latest news
and events at Moravian. "The interactive calendar software provided
by Region Online is a great tool for the community to discover the wonderful
music, art, and culture the College affords the local community,"
Wilson said.
