Moravian College will hold a timely discussion on racism
that will include the perspectives of a diverse group of five individuals.
"Racism in American Today: Five Perspectives" will be held
on Thursday, December 2, 7:30-9:30 p.m. in Prosser Auditorium in the
Haupert Union Building at Moravian College.
The Holocaust is the topic during Session I of the program.
Eva Cutler, a survivor of the former Nazi concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen,
will speak on "Reflections on the Holocaust." Ursula Wuerth
will speak on "The Rescue of Jews by Righteous Gentiles during
the Holocaust."
During Session II panelists will offer their views on
the racial climate in American today by providing African-American,
Latino, Muslim, and East Asian perspectives. Esther Lee, Chair of the
Northampton County Human Relations Advisory Council and Vice-President
of the Bethlehem Chapter of NAACP and Sharon J. Brown, Director of Multicultural
Affairs at Moravian College will provide an African-American perspective.
Elsa Vazquez, Case Manager for St. Luke's Hospital - Social Services,
will provide the Latino perspective. Imam Faisal Nabulsi, Engineer,
Lucent Technologies, will provide the Muslim perspective. Dr. Hwa Yol
Jung, Professor of Political Science, Moravian College, will provide
an East Asian perspective.
The organizers of the program and discussion leaders are
Dr. Donald Lo Cicero, Cedar Crest College and Dr. Hans M. Wuerth, Moravian
College, who are jointly teaching the course, "The Holocaust and
other Genocides: Racism Then and Now."
The program is free and open to the public. Prosser Auditorium
is located in the Haupert Union Building at Locust and Monocacy streets
