Dr.
Lisa Sowle Cahill, Roman Catholic Theologian, will be the guest speaker
at Moravian College on Thursday, February 10, 2000. One presentation
will be delivered at the regular meeting of the LVAIC Ecumenical Seminar
at 4 p.m. in the Robert Snyder Room of the Haupert Union Building. Dr.
Cahill’s topic will be "Family: Catholic Social Perspectives."
This discussion will be based on a chapter from her new book Social
Justice and the Family, slated for publication in the spring of this
year.
Dr. Cahill’s second presentation, "The Future
of Roman Catholic Sexual Ethics", is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in
Dana Lecture Hall (Room 204) in the Moravian College Collier Hall of
Science. This is a free public lecture open to the entire Lehigh Valley
community that will be followed by a question and answer session.
Dr. Lisa Sowle Cahill is the former president of both
the Catholic Theological Society of America and the Society of Christian
Ethics. She has served as consultant to the Roman Catholic Church on
numerous occasions regarding issues relating to laity service, AIDS,
marriage, divorce and family life, and the implementation of the Vatican’s
Apostolic Constitution on Catholic Universities. Dr. Cahill was a Visiting
Scholar at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, Georgetown University, in
1986, and a Visiting Professor of Catholic Theology at Yale University
in 1997.
