Musical anthropologist and children’s performer Ella Jenkins at Moravian College

(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) The Moravian College Music Institute will hold a fun-packed sing-along concert featuring children’s musical anthropologist Ella Jenkins on Sunday, February 6, at 3 p.m. Ella Jenkins is one of the most revered pioneers of children’s music. The concert will take place in Foy Hall on Moravian College's Church Street Campus, located at Main and Church streets in Bethlehem.

Celebrating nearly 45 years educating, inspiring, and recording music for children, Ms. Jenkins released her 27th recording in January 2000. From virtually the outset of her folk singing career, Ms. Jenkins stood at the forefront of children’s music, establishing herself as one of the few musicians in the genre whose charms extended beyond her young target audience into the realm of adults and educators.

Ms. Jenkins will fill Foy Hall with her multicultural sounds and songs, playing a variety of instruments from the baritone ukulele, drums, and harmonica to a guitar and rhythm sticks. She’s been carrying the torch of multiculturalism for years – long before it became a buzzword in education.

A regular guest on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Ms. Jenkins will be recognized by children, their parents, and everyone else alike as one who loves to infect the audience with her love of music. Her focus has always been the well being of the young children she so deeply touches through her music. Jenkins has made quest appearances on NBC's Today Show, CNN's Showbiz Today, and Barney and Friends, among others. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the KOHL Education Foundation, the Governor's Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and the Best Variety Performer Award from the American Academy of Children's Entertainment.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 children 12 & under. For more information, call the Moravian College Music Institute at (610) 861-1650.
