News Release
January 2000
Fifteen women students in the Division of Continuing Studies
at Moravian College have been awarded scholarships through the Charlotte
W. Newcombe Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey.
For the nineteenth year, Moravian College has won a grant
of $20,000 that provides scholarships for women, 25 and over, who are
degree candidates, who have earned at least half the credits in their
program, and who qualify under foundation regulations. The College matches
the grant to provide significant assistance to non-traditional students.
"This is an outstanding group of scholars,"
notes Dr. Linda Heindel, Dean of Continuing Studies. "The average
grade point average for this group is 3.86, which says something about
the intensity of their determination and achievement. They manage jobs,
families, and studies with amazing discipline."
The following students received scholarships: Linda Andreychak,
Margaret Buss, Rosemary Chickersky, Evangeline Dollemore, Karen Ferry,
Tiffany Hitz, Heather Holtzer, Sheri Majczan, Mary McLean, Denise Polce,
Pamela Reiss, Patricia Ryan, Caronne Taylor Bloom, Deborah Volk, and
Kathryn Walters.
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation awarded grants totaling
$660,000 to women at 24 institutions of higher learning in the eastern
part of the United States.
