News Release
April 2000
(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra
featuring Wynton Marsalis will perform a "For Dancers Only"
swing concert at Moravian College on Thursday, April 27. The concert
will not only delight swing dancers, but also those who enjoy the finest
in jazz music. The concert will include cabaret style seating reminiscent
of a ballroom of the forties, as the infectious tunes of Count Basie,
Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman blare through the air. A large dance
floor will beckon dancers from their seats to enjoy swing dancing to
the sounds of the talented Wynton Marsalis and the acclaimed Lincoln
Center Jazz Orchestra.
For those who wish to dance but don’t know how to
hop and swirl, professional dance couples will provide swing lessons
prior to the concert from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Beginning at 8:00 p.m. in
Moravian’s Johnston Hall, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with
Wynton Marsalis will perform all of those head nodding, toe tapping,
standards of the fabulous Swing Era.
It will be a night to support culture, community involvement,
and Moravian College. All proceeds from "For Dancers Only"
will go toward the creation of merit scholarships for students of the
Moravian College Music Department.
"For Dancers Only" is sponsored in part by Johnston
& Murphy. Additional support provided by the Moravian College Music
Alliance, Rider-Pool Foundation, The Express Times, WDIY-Lehigh Valley's
community public radio, Lehigh Valley PBS, The Hillside Inn, and the
Wood Company.
Reserved seating admission is $35, which includes the
dance lessons at 6:30 p.m. and the concert at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are
available from the Moravian College Music Department. For more information,
