(Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania) Curtis H. Barnette ("Hank") will make his first
visit to Moravian College as Executive-in-Residence on Tuesday, April
4. Moravian's Executives-in-Residence is a new program that brings business
professionals into the classroom to enhance the learning environment
by combining classroom theory with the expertise and insight of those
working in the business world.
During the afternoon, Mr. Barnette will address the undergraduate
Business Strategy and Policy Class in the Distance Learning Classroom
in Bahnson Center. The presentation will be interactive, with students
offering summaries of what they have learned from their research about
the steel industry and Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Mr. Barnette will
discuss the changes and developments that occurred under his leadership
as Chairman & CEO of Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Later he will
meet with faculty from the College’s Economics and Business Department
and attend a reception with the Moravian MBA faculty, students, and
alumni.
During the early evening, Barnette will speak at the Amrhein
Investment Club dinner at the Sun Inn in Bethlehem. Barnette will make
congratulatory remarks in response to the investment club’s phenomenal
success, celebrating the achievement of a one million dollar plus portfolio.
The student directed Amrhein Investment Club was founded in 1962 and
started with an initial investment of $30,000. Currently, the portfolio’s
total value is over $1.3 million. Barnette will also offer his insights
on the "new economy" from the perspective of a company considered
"traditional economy."
Barnette has served as the chairman and chief executive
officer of Bethlehem Steel Corporation for the past eight years. Prior
to that he served as senior vice president and director for 6 years,
and as general counsel and secretary for 15 years. He joined Bethlehem
Steel as an
attorney in 1967. Bethlehem Steel Corporation is one of
the largest steel producers in the nation with annual revenues of over
$4.4 billion and shipments of 8.6 million tons of steel annually.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective
liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its
founding to 1742, it is recognized as America's sixth-oldest college.
