August 2000
(Bethlehem,
PA) – Moravian College again ranked among the nation’s National
Liberal Arts Colleges in the U.S. News and World Report 2001 ranking
of best colleges. For the third year, Moravian was ranked in the third
tier of national liberal arts colleges. Moravian broke into the National
category in 1997, and is now only one of seventeen such schools in Pennsylvania.
Locally, Lafayette College and Muhlenberg College are also included
in National Liberal Arts category.
Moravian continued to score high marks in freshman retention
and graduation rates in the survey of college admission deans, academic
deans, and presidents. Due in large part to an expanded recruitment
base, increased selectivity, and wider recognition, Moravian has remained
in the National Liberal Arts College category, considered the premier
group of liberal arts colleges.
"It is important to the Moravian College community
that we are listed among the National Liberal Arts Colleges," said
Bernard Story, vice president for enrollment. "We are proud to
be included among what we feel are the best colleges in the country.
We continue to implement new programs and initiatives that we hope will
help Moravian continue to improve the college experience for our students.
Moravian is recognized as a national college which helps us to continue
to increase our national and international recruitment"
There are 162 colleges in the United State that rank in
the national liberal arts college category. Moravian ranks as one of
these schools that emphasize undergraduate education and award at least
40 percent of their degrees in liberal arts disciplines, such as foreign
languages, life sciences, philosophy, and psychology. The national liberal
arts schools tend to require higher college entrance test scores than
those in the regional category.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective
liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its
founding to 1742, it is recognized as America's sixth-oldest college.
