News Release
September 2000
Moravian
College’s United Way TEAM 2000 is conducting a focused food drive
to collect peanut butter, jelly, cereal, and diapers to help needy kids
across the Lehigh Valley. On Thursday, September 21, TEAM 2000 -- a
core group of 20 Moravian College volunteers -- will sort and package
all of the items collected from across campus, and distribute them to
three United Way agencies: Lehigh Valley Conference of Churches of Allentown,
New Bethany Ministries of Bethlehem, and Project Easton of Easton. After
delivering the "goods," TEAM 2000 will tour the agencies to
get a firsthand look at the impact Moravian College's donations will
have on the Lehigh Valley's kids and their families.
"The decision to help kids was an easy one,"
explains campus coordinator, Marian Preston. "The traditional Day
of Caring project involved a handful of volunteers painting or fixing
up the facilities of a United Way agency for a single day. The focused
food drive invites participation from the entire campus community,"
she said.
The United Way's Volunteer Center is excited about this
new concept for a Day of Caring project and hopes to use it as a model
for future projects. For more information, contact Marian Preston at
