(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) – Over 50 member of the
Moravian College Greyhound football team will exchange their helmets
for hardhats and shovels as they participate in a day of community service
on Tuesday, October 10. A number of team members will be doing outside
construction, landscaping, tree removal and other outdoor projects.
Fifteen members will work at Habitat for Humanity in South Bethlehem,
while 17 will be participating in Historic Bethlehem’s Industrial
Quarter. Another 10 members will be weeding at the Bethlehem Community
Garden and later replacing benches at the Municipal Ice Rink to ready
the facility for winter. Eleven players will be "buddies"
for the morning at Via by participating with their mentally challenged
adult partner during Via’s morning workshop duties.
The day of service comes during fall break at Moravian
College. The students will gather at the Haupert Union Building on October
10 around 8:45 a.m. to depart to their sites. All service activities
will conclude by noon so that the team can have lunch before afternoon
practice. The day of service is being organized by the Moravian College
Football Floor with the assistance of the Phyllis Walsh, coordinator
of community service at Moravian.
