News Release
October 2000
(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) -- Martha Voorhees, a junior
at Moravian College is entering a 26.2 mile marathon in Dublin, Ireland
on October 30 as part of the Team in Training Program with The Leukemia
and Lymphoma Society. Voorhees is sponsoring Megan Mertz, a nine year
old Lehigh Valley resident.
"My patient hero is Megan Mertz. She a vibrant, and
energetic young girl who faces challenges every day," said Voorhees.
"That is why I will challenge my body for this brief 26.2 mile
marathon. My event will only last hours, but her challenge lasts every
minute of each and every day." She is my inspiration to train and
to reach my goal of $4,500," she said.
Over 1,000 participants from around the country will join
in the quest to raise close to a million dollars to fight leukemia by
running or walking a marathon. Leukemia kills more children each year
than any other disease, and strikes ten times as many adults as children.
