Pennsylvania)—Moravian College is celebrating International Education
Week, November 13-17. Moravian will hold a number of events with an
international theme leading up to and during the week. On Saturday,
November 11, the Moravian College Admissions Office Open House will
feature a track Study Abroad Opportunities. On Sunday, November 12,
the International Film Series will feature the film, The Eel (Japan).
The International Club will hold an Appreciation Tea Party for invited
guests on November 20.
The designation of International Education Week is part
of a cooperative response by Richard W. Riley, Department of Education
and Madeline K. Albright, United States Secretary of State, to the Presidential
policy directive on international education. The executive memorandum
states, "It is the policy of the federal government to support
international education. We are committed to: encouraging students from
other countries to study in the United States; promoting study abroad
by U.S. study; supporting the exchange of teachers, scholars, and citizens
at all level of society; enhancing programs at U.S. institutions that
build international partnerships and expertise; expanding high quality
foreign language learning and in-depth knowledge of other cultures by
Americans; preparing and supporting teachers in their efforts to interpret
other countries and cultures for their students; advancing new technologies
that aid the spread of knowledge throughout the world."
