News Release
September 2001
(Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania)- Moravian College will present a timely lecture featuring
Andrea Mitchell, simply titled, "An Evening with Andrea Mitchell,"
on Wednesday, October 10th, at 8:00 p.m. Mitchell is the chief foreign
affairs correspondent for NBC News, a position she's held since November
1994. She reports on evolving foreign policy issues in the United States
and abroad for all NBC News broadcasts, including "Nightly News
with Tom Brokaw," "Today" and for MSNBC. This Cohen Arts
and Lecture Series program will be held in Johnston Hall at Moravian
College, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Mitchell has been a lead correspondent covering the terrorist
attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Her observations of
the recent tragic events, the media, politics, and life "inside
the beltway" (Washington D.C.) will both inform and move the audience.
One of NBC News' top political correspondents, Andrea
Mitchell is the host of MSNBC's The Mitchell Report (formally known
as "Decision 2000"), NBC News' election year broadcast of
record. The Mitchell Report presents a round up of the day's political
events and news updates on the presidential and congressional races,
including the debates, primaries and caucuses. Mitchell interviews newsmakers
both in Washington D.C. and on the campaign trail, and the broadcast
features NBC News correspondents and journalists from MSNBC'S alliances
including: Newsweek, The Washington Post, The National Journal, Hotline,
and MSNBC.com.
Prior to being named Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent,
Mitchell had been NBC News' Chief White House Correspondent a post she
assumed after covering Bill Clinton from the New Hampshire primary through
the entire 1992 presidential campaign. During her time at the White
House, she broke stories on cabinet changes, policy decisions on gays
in the military and military interventions in Bosnia and Haiti.
Over the years, Mitchell has appeared on Meet the Press
as a panelist and substitute host. An acclaimed political reporter,
she has also covered every presidential election since 1976. In fact,
during the 1988 Republican National Convention, she beat both the competition
and presidential candidate George Bush with the announcement that Bush
had chosen Dan Quayle to be his running mate. She was also a panelist
in the final Bush-Dukakis presidential debate.
Mitchell is married to Federal Reserve Board Chairman
Alan Greenspan and resides in Washington D.C.
Andrea Mitchell's appearance marks the 18th anniversary
of the Cohen series at Moravian College. In past years, the series has
brought to Bethlehem such notables as Joseph Kennedy II, Ambassador
Andrew Young, James Carville and John Sununu, the New York Philomusica,
former President Jimmy Carter, author Kurt Vonnegut, former governor
Mario Cuomo, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
The Cohen Arts and Lectures Series at Moravian College
was established in 1984 by Bernard and Bertha Cohen, who were active
in Bethlehem business and community affairs until their 1976 relocation
to Boca Raton, Florida. Bertha Cohen is a 1937 Moravian graduate and
a former member of the college's board of trustees. Bernard Cohen is
a member of the Lehigh University class of 1936.
