News Release
November 2001
(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) - The week of November 11-17
was National Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week. Moravian College's
National Leadership Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa, and National
Fraternity, Delta Tau Delta joined colleges and universities around
the country in support of raising national awareness for the cause.
Various groups on campus pledged their support for this event and participated
by being stationed at the 1742 splotch between the hours of 5-9 p.m.
Through this effort, they hoped to raise the campus' awareness regarding
homelessness and hunger nationwide. Although, we live in the wealthiest
country in the world, homelessness and hunger still affects citizens
nationwide as well as right here in the Lehigh Valley. According to
the Lehigh Valley Coalition on Affordable Housing, "2,900 people
remain homeless in this area." Various posters were placed throughout
the campus, which displayed national statistics on homelessness and
hunger. Donations were collected of non-perishable food, clothing, blankets,
and monetary donations in the HUB during this week and continuing through
November 21. All donations will directly benefit local shelters.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective
liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its
founding to 1742, it is recognized as America's sixth-oldest college.
