(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) - Dr. Connie Unger, assistant
professor of education at Moravian College, will lead a four-week summer
course entitled, "Literacy Seminar in New Zealand" from July
12 to August 8. The course will take place in Hamilton, New Zealand
at the University of Waikato.
"Literacy Seminar in New Zealand" is designed
to introduce the knowledge and skills pertaining to the nature of the
reading process and the teaching of reading as it relates to children
in the primary, intermediate, and middle school grades. It will also
involve participation in school placements at both rural and urban settings.
Sightseeing will also be offered during this program,
including visits to rainforests, black beaches, caves, geothermal areas,
and Maori villages. The program will also visit several cultural sites
in the Auckland and Hamilton areas.
The course is open to the public. Application deadline
is March 1, 2002. Total cost for tuition, accommodations, most meals,
ground transportation, program tours, and guest lectures is $3,275.
Airfare, costs of private travel, laundry, and personal expenses are
