Pennsylvania) - Lutheran minister Martin E. Marty will present "Embodying
Community in Ministry" as part of the Moravian Theological Seminary's
Weber Memorial Lecture Series. The program will be held on Thursday,
March 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Seminary's Bahnson Center,
60 W. Locust Street, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The program is open to
the public and admission is free of charge.
Marty will discuss strategies for pastors of small to
midsize congregations to generate support when experiencing financial
difficulties. He will discuss how pastors can uphold their spirit and
"attract-ability." He will also discuss the definitions of
"soul" and "spirit," showing how to revitalize congregations
and exhilarate ministry in congregational settings.
Marty is the Fairfax M. Cone distinguished service professor
emeritus at the University of Chicago, the George B. Caldwell senior
scholar-in-residence at the Park Ridge Center. Marty, an author of over
fifty books, is also editor of Second Opinion, the fortnightly newsletter
Context, and the weekly e-mail column Sightings. His honors include
the National Humanities Medal, the National Book award, the Medal of
the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and sixty-seven honorary degrees.
The Weber Lectures were established at the Seminary in
1950 in memory of Rev. Christian O. Weber and his wife, Dorothy Pfohl
Weber, by their sons, Herbert '52, Christian '49, and Bruce.
