Pennsylvania) -Professor Jorge Nef, Ph.D. from the University of Guelph
in Canada will speak on "The Argentinean Crisis and the Political
Economy of the Southern Cone" on Tuesday, March 19 at 4:15 p.m.
at Moravian College in Prosser Auditorium.
Nef is Professor of Political Studies and International
Development. He has also been a visiting professor in many Canadian
and foreign universities. Nef is a past President of the Canadian Association
of Latin American and Caribbean Studies as well as former Editor of
the Canadian Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. He is
a Fellow of the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean
and the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University.
Nef has written numerous books, journal articles, and
book chapters, dealing with development issues, food security, terrorism,
ethics and technology, comparative public administration, authoritarian
regimes, social theory, international relations and Latin American politics.
His most recent research has focused on issues of governability, social
policy, conflict resolution, and human security in the context of global
relations.
Awards Nef has received include the Distinguished Professor
Teaching Award, College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, University
of Guelph Faculty Association (1987-88 and 1997-98), and the Ontario
Confederation of Faculty Associations Lifetime Teaching Award: "Outstanding
Contribution to University Teaching" (1997-98).
The lecture is open to the public and admission is free.
