- Regina Lacombe has been selected as the first Verizon Foundation Scholar
in Nursing at Moravian College. Lacombe, junior nursing and psychology
major at Moravian College, is the daughter of Robert and Beatrice Lacombe
of Andover, Connecticut.
The $2,500 nursing scholarship will be presented to Lacombe
on Monday, March 11, at 1:30 p.m., in the St. Luke's School of Nursing
at Moravian College offices in Collier Hall.
The Verizon Foundation Scholar in Nursing is awarded to
a student enrolled in the bachelor's nursing program. Criteria for the
scholarship selection includes: earned cumulative GPA of at least 3.00;
Junior status in the curriculum; full engagement in the college community;
demonstrated leadership presence or potential; documented financial
aid need; and a recommendation by the nursing faculty.
"We are pleased with the Verizon Foundation's generosity
and this scholarship will allow us to recognize the achievements of
an outstanding nursing student and provide financial
support," said Janet Sipple, R.N., Ed.D., dean of the St. Luke's
School of Nursing at Moravian College. "In today's health care
environment it is important to encourage more men and women to choose
nursing as a profession. Scholarships such as the Verizon Foundation
Scholar in Nursing at Moravian College will help us with that goal."
The Department of Nursing at Moravian College in partnership
with St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, provides nursing majors with
a wide ranges of choices. Students have access to the resources of a
liberal arts education and a nursing curriculum based on a holistic
approach to heath, pursuing careers as clinical, occupational, health,
community mental health, school, and emergency room nurses.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective
