(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) - More than 500 students representing
39 junior and senior high schools competed at Moravian College in a
regional Science Olympiad on Friday, March 15, 2002. Kutztown Area High
School took top honors in the competition among participating area (Division
C) high schools. Fleetwood Middle School outpaced the participating
middle schools.
The top four finishers among high schools and middle schools
will go on to the state competition that will be held April 26 at Juniata
College.
Joining Kutztown Area High School (Kutztown) at the state
competition will be Fleetwood Area High School (Fleetwood) which finished
a close second, followed by Wilson High School (Wilson)in third place,
and Liberty High School (Bethlehem) in fourth place.
Middle schools heading to the state competition include
Fleetwood Middle School (Fleetwood) which finished first, East Hills
Middle School (Bethlehem) in second place, Daniel Boone Middle School
(Birdsboro) in third, and Twin Valley Middle School (Elverson) fourth.
Science Olympiad is an academic, interscholastic event
culminating in regional, state, and national tournaments, designed to
increase student interest in science, recognize outstanding student/teacher
achievement, and improve the quality of science education.
