News Release
August 2002
(Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania) - Moravian College has been selected for inclusion in
the newest edition of The Princeton Review's Best Colleges series. Moravian
is one of only 14 institutions nationwide to be added in this year's
edition, The Best 345 Colleges, that will hit newsstands in August.
Last year, the Princeton Review published The Best 331 Colleges.
"Moravian College clearly fit the criteria, and we
are pleased to include you in the new edition of our book," said
Robert J. Franek, author of The Best 345 Colleges, and editorial director
of The Princeton Review. "On behalf of the entire selection committee,
I must say it was a great pleasure reviewing your school's credentials;
you have much to brag about! Congratulations," he said.
Considered a leading publication for selecting colleges,
The Princeton Review's "Best Colleges" includes a two-page
overview on each college that examines the institution's culture, covering
academics, social life, composition of the student body, and admissions
information. Sidebars of each page supply information in a tabular form,
rating campus life, academics, and difficulty of admission along with
supplying a freshman profile and financial facts.
The guide also includes frank student opinions on the
colleges profiled, based on campus surveys of 65,000 students. The guide's
irreverent approach includes an introductory section of indexes, ranking
schools by category based on the student survey. Among the categories
are "Dorms Like Dungeons," "The Toughest To Get Into,"
"Party Schools," and "Best Quality of Life."
"We are certainly pleased to be recognized as one
of the best colleges in the country, however, there is one small caveat,"
said Bernie Story, vice-president for enrollment at Moravian College.
It is difficult to predict the results of the student survey, and which
comments the Princeton Review will use to characterize the college.
While we do not believe Moravian will rank among those colleges with
dorms like dungeons, we know our students will enjoy sounding off in
the student survey."
The college admissions staff collaborated with alumni
to petition The Princeton Review for an invitation to apply. "We
were confident that once we received an invitation to apply, The Princeton
Review, would recognize the unique and outstanding qualities of Moravian
College and include us in their Best Colleges guide," said Story.
"A group of dedicated alumni provided the synergy we needed to
open the door."
Moravian College will join other Lehigh Valley institutions,
Lehigh University, Lafayette College, and Muhlenberg College, in the
Best Colleges guide.
