Pennsylvania) - Moravian College junior Kristen Moyer (Hamburg, PA)
was selected to received Keystone State Reading Association scholarship.
Each year, the scholarship is presented to a pre-service teacher in
Pennsylvania. This is the first time that a Moravian College student
has won this state competition. Moyer is a psychology and elementary
education major at Moravian.
Applicants submit a written application, which is reviewed
by a state-wide committee. The selection process is made based on grade-point-average,
involvement in teaching and community service, professional goals, personal
attributes, and a written essay. There are over 30 reading councils
that each submits one application to the committee. Colonial Association
of Reading Educators, of which Moravian College professor Dr. Connie
Unger is president, selected and submitted Moyer's application. Applicants
do not need to be a member of any of the reading councils, but Kristen
is a member of their local council.
Moyer will be honored by the C.A.R.E. council on May 14th
at the "Celebrate Literacy" Gala in the HUB at Moravian College.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective
liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its
