Pennsylvania) – Four Moravian College nursing students recently
on exchange to Toowoomba during May thoroughly enjoyed their visit describing
the garden city as a "beautiful place with friendly and welcoming
people".
Nicole Spangler, Regina Lacombe, Jennifer Wagner and Elizabeth
Miller decided to become part of the Australian American Nursing Exchange
Program to get a "taste of travel and to experience work in other
countries". The program is operated by the University of Southern
Queensland (USQ) Nursing Department.
The four students are from Moravian College in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania, and as part of their trip recorded a journal of all activities
and provided reports to their college. During their three week stay
the students spent time at Toowoomba Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital,
Allora Hospital, Cherbourg Community Health and USQ.
"It has been interesting to see the differences between
your private and public health systems," Nicole said.The students
presented a seminar to various nursing groups entitled "The Globalisation
of Nursing" where they discussed nursing in America, health insurance
and the new nursing training program at their college. Nicole, Regina,
Jennifer and Elizabeth thanked USQ Nursing Lecturer Janet Rankin and
Toowoomba Hospital Educator Terri Flannagan for making their stay both
educational and enjoyable.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective
liberal arts college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its
founding to 1742, it is recognized as America's sixth-oldest college.
