(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) — Award-winning children's
recording artist Nelson Gill and the Caribbean Rhythm Band will perform
at Moravian College on Sunday, September 22, at 4 p.m. in Foy Concert
Hall. Nelson Gill is an entertainer and educator who is a recipient
of numerous awards including the Caribbean Entertainer of the Year,
Parent's Choice Award, and Director's Choice Award. Born in Belize,
Central America his compositions are greatly influenced by the lively
Caribbean rhythms found in Reggae, Limbo, Calypso, Punta, Soca, and
Merengue. His own music emphasizes concepts such as math, friendship,
world harmony, and perseverance.
Gill was a preschool teacher for 15 years when he discovered
the impact of his music and began singing songs to help some of his
students settle into naptime. He discovered that his guitar music not
only soothed the students, but stimulated questions from them. One by
one the children would start requesting songs.
Gill was educated in Chicago, Illinois and holds an A.A. degree in Music,
B.A. in Spanish Literature and M.Ed in Early Childhood Education. Nelson
has been taking his show on the road to America's schools and has made
an impression not only among students, but parents, school teachers,
principals and administrators. He has performed at some of the most
prestigious venues in Chicago, including Taste of Chicago, Navy Pier,
Ravinia Summer Fest and the International Festival. He has also traveled
and performed in various locations in Central America and the Caribbean.
In addition, his music can be heard on top radio stations, and he is
continuously featured in print, broadcasting and audio-visual mediums.
Gill has released three albums. "Going Places"
was released in 1990 and reached an audience primarily of young children.
"Friends" was released in 1992, and with his third release
in 1995, "One Word, One Light," Gill crossed over to the adult
audience with his universal themes of living together harmoniously and
working through adversity.
Foy Concert Hall is located on the Priscilla Payne Hurd
Campus, Main and Church streets in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
