(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) - Moravian College will host
presentations by two leading advocates in support of reparations for
slavery on Wednesday, November 13, in Prosser Auditorium. The program
is sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges
(LVAIC) Africana Studies Consortium. The public is welcome and admission
is free. Prosser Auditorium is located in the Haupert Union Building
at Monocacy and Locust Streets.
Howard McGary, professor of philosophy at Rutgers University,
will speak on "Ethical Foundations of Reparation"
at 4:00 p.m. McGary is the author of "Race and Social Justice,"
(Blackwell, 1999), and co-author of "Between Slavery and Freedom:
Philosophy and American Slavery," (Indiana, 1992).
Conrad Worrill, professor of Inner City Studies Education
at Northeastern Illinois University, will discuss "Reparations
for African Americans," at 8:00 p.m. Worrill is the chairman of
the National Black United Front (NBUF) and the Economic Development
Commissioner of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in
America (N'COBRA). He was also one of the major organizers for
the 1995 Million Man March and the 2002 Millions for Reparations Mass
Rally, both held in Washington, D. C.
The Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges,
Inc. (LVAIC) is a non-profit, charitable organization whose members
include Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lafayette College,
Lehigh University, Moravian College and Muhlenberg College.
