Pennsylvania) - The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Moravian
College recently sponsored a "Penny Wars" fundraiser which
raised over $400 for Habitat for Humanity, Allentown Affiliate. "Penny
Wars" encompassed of the following activities. A number of faculty
and administrators were nominated to participate by the SAAC. Jars bearing
each of their names were placed in the student center and the campus
community was invited to put pennies in the jars. Points are awarded
based on the number of pennies in the jar, minus the amount of other
coinage and cash donated in the jar. The persons with the most points
at the completion were selected to be made into "human sundaes"
at halftime of the Moravian College men's basketball game against Albright
on Wednesday, December 4, in Johnston Hall.
The top three participants will receive the sundae treatment
at the game by getting ice cream, chocolate syrup, cherries, and wipe
cream dumped on their heads. Mary Beth Sprik, women's basketball coach
and assistant director of athletics at Moravian College, ranked the
highest with 3588 points. Second place went to Dr. Robert (Doc) Windolph,
dean of student life with 3147 points, and third place went to Dr. Robert
Brill, associate professor of Psychology, with 961 points.
The Student Athletic Advisory Committee is comprised of
two student athletes from each of Moravian athletic teams. The group
meets regularly to discuss athletic and other campus issues and make
recommendations.
